Hiking Etna tour
The excursion starts from Rifugio Citelli at 1740 meters. The trail winds through a unique forest with the rare betula aetnesis (Etna birch). You'll explore a lava flow cave, and once at 2200 meters, you'll enjoy breathtaking views of the caldera and summit craters. The descent through sandy channels completes the adventure. Welcome to our thrilling Etna hiking tour, an unparalleled experience for hiking enthusiasts. Trust our expert naturalistic guide as you explore pristine trails, traverse enchanting forests, and reach the famous 1971 lava flow cave, immersed in a unique volcanic landscape.
The starting point of the excursion is the eastern area of Etna, at an altitude of 1750 metres, near the picturesque Rifugio Citelli. The choice of where to start your adventure is yours: we can meet you at the Rifugio Citelli, or at our designated meeting point, where you can conveniently leave your car and join our 4x4 vehicles. For added convenience, we can also pick you up directly from your accommodation in the Catania to Taormina area.
The route, starting from the refuge square, winds through woods and breathtaking landscapes, passes through a lava cave and climbs up to the viewpoint at 2200 meters above sea level. This excursion is of moderate difficulty and suitable for hikers in good physical condition. Not recommended for those with heart, respiratory or hypertension problems. Children over 12 are welcome, but also under 12 as long as they are accustomed to mountain walks; while women beyond the third month of pregnancy are encouraged to choose another adventure.
The itinerary may vary due to weather conditions, but safety is always our priority. Explore the cave with unique lava formations and continue along the trail for panoramic views of the Valle del Bove, concluding at the Belvedere at 2200 meters.
The descent through picturesque sandy channels ensures an exciting return to the starting point, thus concluding an unforgettable day of exploration on Etna.
